Getting sentimental about technology
Submitted by suttam on Mon, 2006-02-27 11:51Hi all. It is a great feeling to have access to a platform to express myself on EnableAll.
I remember how it all started a few decades ago. I was still in school and it was a priviledge to have used a BBC Micro Computer there. BBC Micros were the PC in those days that required floppy discs to start up. Today, access to a PC is a given. It is assumed that every person you meet does have an email ID. Wow.
Could our parents and grand parents ever think about such access to information? I think owning a telephone was a sign of affluence. Today having an email ID is normal.
I sometimes get too emotional about technology. I have seen the snail paced PC to Pentiums and Celerons. I have experienced high speed dial-up internet connections from 28.8 kbps (pun intended) to broadband connections. I have worked in places where even getting to a telephone means having to walk for a couple of kilometers to having worked in organizations that have a dedicated leased lines for internet access.
