Make them laugh - March 29
My sincere apologies, because of a work trip I have not been able to update my descriptive cartoon blog for almost a week now. Since it is easy to get to the cartoon archives in Times of India online, I am describing the last seven cartoons. I hope to be more regular from tomorrow, covering cartoons from other newspapers too.
Times of India: Just like that! By Ajit Ninan
March 27
There is a vast stretch of barren land. Far away some hills are seen and there is a watch tower, like the ones they have in prisons. Groups of convicts are seen scattered across the vast stretch. The convicts have stacked up their drinking cups to form a pyramid (four cups in the bottom, then three, then two and then one on top). A few paces away from a stack of cups, one convict is holding the heavy ball that is tied to his foot with a long chain, ready to roll and hit the stacked cups (like a bowling game). Two other convicts are standing on the side, holding their heavy balls, waiting for their turn. A police officer is explaining to a politician, "A cost-effective prison without walls and arms, to prevent Naxalites from blowing, stealing and freeing inmates".

There is a government building on the left and Parliament House on the right. Signs of heated arguments and mild explosions are visible on the Parliament House. Outside, one person is telling another, "We have 'ordinance' factory on our left and 'ordnance' factory on our right. What's made here, explodes there".

A person wearing a knight's armour from head to toe is walking on a footpath. People walking around are turning and staring at the person. Two policemen are standing on the side and the senior officer is telling his junior, "The trouble with this new witness protection programme is that its pretty easy to spot who is in it".

Two men are standing outside 10 Janpath. In the address written on the gate outside, within the zero of the "10", is a caricature of Sonia Gandhi and the zero is sparkling like a medal. One person is reading a newspaper on which a figure of a gymnast on a balancing beam can be seen. He is telling the other, "In this whole tamasha of Parliamentary gymnastics, Congress wants her to score a perfect ten".

In the background is a village. On a dirt track in front of the village there is a convoy of a road-roller, followed by a water tanker and a big generator. A bunch of politicians are on the road-roller and it has "Vote For" posters stuck on it. Indian flag is fluttering on the road-roller and it has two loud speakers. One of the politicians in the road-roller is saying, "People never vote for us when we zip around in VIP convoys promising, roads, water, power…".

At an airport boarding gate, there is a bunch of politicians with lots of luggage queuing to board a plane. The police officer has stopped the last person in the queue, who is wearing athlete's shoes, shorts and vest with number eight written on the vest. The athlete does not have any luggage. One trolley collector is telling the other, "That's the official Indian contingent for the international sports meet – 20 officials and one athlete who has got left behind because he has access baggage".

A swamiji is teaching yoga to a large number of people. Swamiji is saying, "Next, neck exercise – Heads up for rising Sensex, down for crashing MiG… Sensex - MiG - Sensex - MiG…".
